The Bentley Pikes Peak Bentayga is quite a mouthful, but the luxury British marquee announced it’s decision to ‘rename’ a special edition of the popular SUV after a modified Bentayga set a new record at the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb on Sunday 24th June.
The Bentayga SUV had veteran driver Rhys Millen at the wheel when it rolled up the mountain in 10:49.9 to break the previous record set for quickest production SUV at the hill climb by almost two minutes. On Monday, Bentley said it would mark the occasion with the Pikes Peak Bentayga, which is the manufacturer’s celebration of the record-setting SUV and it will have a design inspired by the actual Pikes Peak vehicle. Bentley’s Mulliner division will handle the assembly of the special-edition SUV, which will come in either Beluga black paint or Radium—the latter matches the Pikes Peak racer’s green exterior colour.
Whatever colour you choose, the Pikes Peak Bentayga will have wheelwells featuring a Beluga and Radium two-tone finish. Every piece of chrome is also replaced with black components, and the side skirts, diffuser, and rear spoiler are made of carbon fibre.
Inside the Pikes Peak Bentayga, dramatic Key Lime accents leap out from the black Beluga leather and Pikes Peak logos are found on the cabin’s carbon fibre fascias, plus a unique numbered plate signifies the SUV’s limited-edition status.
Apart from some safety and racing modifications, (roll cage and racing seats for example) the Bentayga racer is nearly identical to the Bentayga Pikes Peak edition. Both SUVs have a 600-horsepower 6.0-litre twin-turbo W-12 engine. The special edition SUV will also have a sport exhaust and a ‘touring’ spec that includes a head-up display, night vision, adaptive cruise control, active lane control and traffic assist operating the brakes, steering, and throttle in low-speed situations.
Only 10 of the Pikes Peak Bentayga models are going to be built and the order books will open in August for U.S. and European customers. As yet the price has not been revealed.
