Lewis Hamilton is an avid car collector as well as a leading Formula 1 driver. Currently he drives for Mercedes AMG, and recently he told Top Gear that his dream is to create a very special edition of Mercedes-AMG’s incoming hypercar (known as Project One). Utlimately, what Lewis Hamilton wants is a Mercedes AMG special ‘LH Edition’.
The customised car would naturally have the F! engine, Hamilton has in his racing car. He told Top Gear, ““I’ve not driven it yet, but I’ve developed the engine. I’m pretty proud of that. I’ve won the championship in that engine. The driveability, the power output and where the power comes in… all those kinds of things are what I helped steer. Getting that car is going to be awesome.”
The five times world champion then talked about his ambition: “I want to do a special LH Edition. I’ve already spoken to them about it, and they’re considering it. It doesn’t make sense not to do it, considering we’ve won the world championship,” he told Top Gear. He added, ““Ferrari always have a ‘world championship’ sticker on their cars, and we should be proud of our heritage and it should be a part of that car.”
And what tweaks might Lewis Hamilton make to his special edition Mercedes AMG? “I’d probably change the exhaust system, make it a bit louder. I’d naturally want to push Andy Cowell (head of Merc-AMG’s F1 powertrains) to give it a little bit more power,” he said. Given that the Project One model already has in excess of 1,000bhp from its 1.6-litre turbo hybrid V6, it is hard to imagine how powerful the LH Edition would be.
He also revealed that he’d make some exterior changes: “I’d probably change a few of the surfaces,” Hamilton said, “and add a little bit to the bodykit.” Although he also admitted,
“I don’t know how much room they’d give me to do all of this, but I’d definitely do it.”
He also suggested that he would like to work on customising the car with any buyer, which would be a treat for any fans of F1 and Lewis Hamilton. He told Top Gear, ““I could custom design each one, with whoever ends up buying the car. That’d be a cool job.”
